Our story

Chitra was the name of Nirmal K. Sethia's late wife, and her memory is to leave its footprint in our beautiful country too.

Chitra House represents the essence of Chitra – her love, compassion, beauty and elegance.

  1. 2011

    The journey begins

We began building the Chitra Collection around the world. The properties are hand-picked by the owner himself, where location, atmosphere and the unique create inspiring places to meet.

  2. 12 April 2016

    Chitra House Oslo opens

Chitra House Oslo became the first of the properties to open to the public. Mr. Sethia marked the opening with distinguished guests from around the world, including ambassadors and excellencies, as well as close family and friends.

  3. The opening night

    A journey in culinary art

Guests enjoyed a journey in culinary art, entertainment from some of our finest opera singers and musicians, and an unforgettable display of flowers and light over the Oslofjord.

  4. Today

    A place for great moments

The house is hired out in its entirety and hosts everything from important meetings and conferences to weddings, afternoon tea and celebrations of special occasions.

A tribute
to Chitra

Chitra House has been described as a footprint, a dream and a philosophy, and is a tribute to Chitra, Mr. Sethia's late wife.

“Chitra taught me that the first step towards divinity is gratitude. To all who knew her, she radiated a truly unique goodness and kindness, yet she never spoke of her philanthropic deeds.”

Two floors,
two characters

Chitra House combines Indian- and Scandinavian-inspired interiors. Two floors, two moods – under one roof.

Ground floor

Indian style and tradition

The ground floor is inspired by Indian style and tradition, with rich colours, gilded details, red velvet furniture and crystal chandeliers. Here you will find the lounges, the banquet hall and the showroom.

Scandinavian design

The first floor is shaped by Scandinavian design – bright, elegant rooms with blue walls, large windows and art. Perfect for meetings, conferences and smaller events.

A journey
around the world

We have travelled around the world, from Jaipur to London and from Paris to Venice, to find the right combinations of fabrics, colours, furniture and design to recreate the essence of Chitra.

“It is a great honour to create unique places around the world in memory of Chitra. A great deal of work has gone into finding the right details, listening to the family’s wishes and, not least, thinking about what Chitra herself would have loved.”
